Jan Cosgrove is a Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist. She is licensed by the Kansas Behavioral Science Regulatory Board (LCP #106). She earned her Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri in 1994.
Jan has worked as a therapist in Kansas for 23 years. She has worked with all ages and with a variety of issues. She has had additional training in sexual abuse treatment, crisis prevention, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and stress management. Her approach to therapy includes listening with compassion and without judgment and then helping clients to find the best way for them to move forward. Sometimes just talking about things helps a person to gain insight. Other times the individual may need to learn some new skills or make some changes in their thought process or behavior. One of Jan’s favorite tenets which she believes describes good mental health is found in the Serenity Prayer which encourages us to “accept the things we cannot change, courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference” (Reinhold Niebuhr).
Jan enjoys teaching skills when this is needed. She believes in the importance of knowing how to use relaxation techniques, mindfulness, and prayer; as well as how to use your thoughts to help you to deal with problems. She ascribes to a whole person philosophy which incorporates the mind, body, and spirituality.
